Christmas Treats

I made some super yummy candied nuts the other day and they're so easy and so good I had to share!

Ingredients:
2 cups almonds
2 cups walnuts
1 egg white
1 tbsp water
3/4 cup of sugar
1/2 cup of brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Preheat oven to 300* F, line baking sheet with parchment paper.

Beat egg white and 1 tbsp of water 2 mins/until frothy and set aside. In medium bowl mix sugars and cinnamon.

In large bowl coat nuts in the egg white mixture, then coat them in 3/4 of the sugar/cinnamon mixture.

Spread evenly on the lined baking sheet, sprinkle some of the mixture on top. Bake 15 mins and then take it out, stir it and sprinkle remaining mixture on top and bake another 15 mins.

Let cool completely before serving.

I hope you try these and love them! Have a good weekend!

Week two with our Elf!

This elf guy is crazy! Some days/nights he just hangs out on top of the fridge watching everything going on and some days he has fun stuff for us or stuff for us to do! Lyla is loving it!

Sunday we found him hugging our kissing penguins!

Monday Lyla stayed home from school because she wasn't feeling well and took a pretty long nap and when she woke up he had all the stuff for us to make marshmallow snowladies!
Silly guy was hanging out in a stocking Wednesday!

Thursday Lyla looked everywhere and finally found him way up in our Christmas tree!
And Friday he brought us the new Sofia the First book to read at bed time!

We can't wait to see what he has in store for us next week! Hope you're having a great weekend!

The Great Christmas Tree Hunt of 2013

Last year we found the perfect Christmas tree farm, it's ran by an older man and his wife. He deals with the tree selling and she sells wreaths that she makes. It's a really nice place, not to far from home and really reasonably priced. Saturday morning we layered up the kids clothes, got their boots out and went on the hunt for our perfect tree. We really liked probably the 6th one we saw but we still walked around the farm about 3 times just to make sure we didn't miss any. At one point I made Lyla stop so I could take her picture by a shorter tree, Adam had kept walking and the owner guy had walked by and was walking in the opposite direction (wearing a jacket almost the same color as Adam's) and Lyla started following him thinking it was Adam! I was laughing so hard I almost couldn't stop her!

We cut it down, got the kids loaded back up in the warm truck and loaded the tree up and headed home. We didn't get to decorate it until later that night because we ended up going to Adam's parents and helping them get their decorations out and went out to eat. Buck was sooo funny to watch discover the tree and Lyla is a great tree decorator!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Handmade Christmas

I have decided to start purchasing a few things for the kids every year that are handmade. So far I bought Lyla some headbands and hair ties and I'm still looking for something for Buck. But I also want to make them things. I have a few ideas for things I'd like to make and hopefully I have time. So far I've made a doll sleeping bag for Lyla. It didn't turn out to bad but I think I need to start learning how to follow a pattern!

Please excuse the mess on my kitchen table/crafting area!

I think I'm going to start on a blanket for Buck and a pillowcase for Lyla. Are you making any Christmas gifts this year?

Week one with our Elf!

This is our first year to have an elf staying with us for the holidays and we're very excited about it! He came to us the day after Thanksgiving and had a special breakfast of elf sized pancakes with "snow" on them and bacon. Lyla thought it was pretty neat! I kept telling her we were going to have a special visitor and she was so shocked to see him sitting on the table when she came out! His name is Christopher and according to his book he's just about the same age as her!

This is when Lyla first discovered him.
Silly Christopher was laying on the top of the "blands" Monday morning!

And he must've tried to get down when we were at the store!

Found him in the fridge Tuesday morning drinking a Capri Sun!
I got really sick Tuesday afternoon and totally forgot about Christopher until late Thursday night!

He left some hot chocolate and marshmallows with a note saying to have a cocoa party before school! And had a buddy join him!

I'm really enjoying this and Lyla is at such a fun age for this! I told her that her friend Gracie has an elf at her house too and she wants to invite him to her birthday party! Do you have an elf visiting you? Do you have any fun ideas for Christopher?

Grilled Cheese with a Twist

I can't remember where I heard about this tasty lunch but it sure is good! Grilled cheese pizza!

Ingredients:
2 slices of bread for each sandwich
shredded cheese
pepperoni
butter
marinara/pizza sauce for dipping

All you need to do is butter up the bread like you would for a grilled cheese, sprinkle some cheese on the bread, add pepperoni, sprinkle some more cheese, put top bread on and cook until cheese is melted and the outside is grilled to your liking. Heat up a little sauce for dipping and enjoy!!

Sorry for the picture quality, I snapped it real quick with my phone before devouring it!

Hope you have a great week!
